How your Invisalign© treatment works
Even though we’ve been using it for years now for our orthodontic patients, Invisalign is still new to a lot of people. We mostly know how traditional braces work, but what about Invisalign? We are here to answer that question as simply as possible for all of you.
Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, include no metal and are custom made for your teeth. They will work in a series of trays that gradually shift your teeth into place as each tray is manufactured so that the teeth are slightly straighter than the previous one.
Making your Invisalign trays
Absolutely nothing is left to chance. When you first start your Invisalign treatment, our team at Go Orthodontistes will take a mold of your teeth using the iTero Element scanner. Forget the gross paste orthodontists use for traditional braces! The machine quickly captures a highly accurate 3D image of your teeth. It’s a quick and painless process that provides us with much better results.
The information will then be sent off to the Invisalign© team so they can make your trays and send them back to us so you can start your treatment. Invisalign trays are custom made with comfort in mind. They use a material called SmartTrack© that was specifically engineered for this use. It’s smooth, BPA-free, non-irritating and comfortable for constant wear. Also, because everyone’s gumline is unique, each of the aligners is precisely trimmed to look and fit better.
Treatment time
We say that the treatment time for an average case is around 12 months. This varies, of course, on the severity of each individual case. For all patients, our Go Orthodontistes team will closely monitor you to develop an individual treatment plan fully customized to your unique needs.
You will receive a set of trays for every two weeks of your treatment. You will come in to see us for a quick consult once every 2 months, more or less, where we will check on your progress and give you your next batch of trays to be used in the time period until your next appointment.
Once you are done
Once your Invisalign is (finally!) over and you’ve reached your ultimate goal, we will recommend your continue to wear retainers during the night. Retainers are necessary because teeth can, unfortunately, shift back into their pre-treatment position. And you wouldn’t want to waste all that time, money and effort!
